American model turned actress Rachel Nichols was born on January 8th 1980 in Augusta, Maine. Rachel Nichols had a happy childhood enjoying time outdoors, especially in the water, practicing her favourite sports windsurfing and sailing.

Rachel Nichols confesses growing up she was a dorky and shy, "skinny, flat-chested girl with long arms". But that turned around by the time she started university. Even today Rachel Nichols insists on the importance of education, making remarks such as "brain transplant doesn't exist yet".

However, it was during her univerisity years that Rachel Nichols started off her modeling carrer, an opportunity she credits to being in the right place at the right time. Her life got quite hectic as she quicky became an international supermodel, campaigning for Guess?, Abercrombie & Fitch, L'Oreal, and Nicole Miller.

Photo shoots often made her fly to Europe and accross the United States while she was studying economics and psychology at New York's Columbia University, and throwing in some drama classes aswell. Finally Rachel Nichols made a good balance and graduated with a double major in math and economics.

Eventually in 2000 Rachel Nichols's modeling career helped her land her first move and progress into an acting carrer, appearing as a model in a bar in Winona Ryder and Richard Gere's movie "Autumn in New York".

Two years later Rachel Nichols formally made her first audition and got the part of Alexa in an episode of HBO's Sex and The City, a sexy hostess who gets involved in a threesome with Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and boyfriend. The following year she got a supporting role in the comedy "Dumb and Dumberer" and since then her acting career has just been going up.
